Giving Back

Valley River Humane Society is a non-profit volunteer organization located in Western North Carolina. Their work spans from Cherokee County to Graham County.  Valley River's primary goal is to reduce the number of homeless animals in their community. By promoting adoptions through their spay and neuter program, they are successful in placing adopted dogs into safe and loving homes.

We have a huge appreciation for the outdoors and we love exploring new grounds, but we also have a huge heart for the homeless dogs of Graham County, North Carolina. It's the natural beauty and majestic landscapes of Western NC's rural towns that brought us to this region and ultimately connected us with Graham County Animal Advocates. After their disbandment in 2018, with their help, we transitioned our Giving Back campaign into Valley River Humane Society ("VRHS"). VRHS has continued the legacy which began in 2013 by Robin Mason and Alice Lumbard, who saw a need for rescuing the strays of Graham County.

Mountain Shiba is proud to partner with Valley River Humane Society because they share in our beliefs that all dogs are family. We feel that by giving back 100% of our profits from our Happy Camper Dog Bowl sales we can truly make an impact to help dogs in a community that we love so much. These collapsible travel dog bowls are made of 100% food grade silicone, are foldable and weigh only 8oz.  They are the perfect travel bowl for any outdoor adventure.

We are grateful for VRHS because of their commitment to finding loving homes for the dogs of Graham County.

Purchasing a HAPPY CAMPER DOG BOWL can help make a difference in a dog's life.

HELLO! My name is Baby Boy and I am a two and a half year old Pitbull mix. I am neutered and I weigh 55 lbs. I have all my vaccines, including rabies and a microchip. I love to take long walks and enjoy meeting new people. I would prefer to be your only 4-legged companion.  I like to play ball and have energy to keep up with you on a jog or a long walk. Please stop by the shelter and ask to meet me, Baby Boy.  You can even take me for a walk on the mountain. I would love to find a forever home with people who will love me!

As part of our ongoing partnership with Valley River Humane Society, each month we feature an adoptable dog who is looking for a second chance to share an adventurous life with a new family.

Valley River Humane Society's goal is to have all animals in their care adopted into loving and safe homes. It takes a lot of effort and collaboration to run the shelter and with the help of public donations, sponsorships, grants, merchandising and sales from their thrift store, VRHS is able to keep adoption fees at a very reasonable price.
