When Hurricane Irma decided to pay us a visit, we had no idea how difficult it would be to keep our dogs safe in preparation for the storm.  Not only was our home completely turned upside down with storm supplies, but at the last minute, we accommodated some guests who had to seek shelter during the storm.

The dogs knew something was up and our focus was on them.  In order to prepare for the storm, we took their travel bag and filled it with all their necessary supplies, so that in case of an evacuation we would be fully prepared.

Here’s a recommended list of things to pack for your dog during storm preparation:

  1. Food (enough for a week in case you need to evacuate)
  2. Water bottles
  3. Travel Water/Food Bowls
  4. Extra Collar and Leash
  5. Treats
  6. Blankets and Towels
  7. Travel Bed
  8. Wipes / Waterless Shampoo
  9. Medication (if applicable)
  10. Toys (lots of them)
  11. Led Safety Necklace
  12. Dog Survival Kit

By far, their LED Safety Necklaces really made a difference when we lost power for two days. We were in total darkness, but we were always able to see where they were without losing sight of them.  We highly recommend these safety necklaces for added protection, because they can easily be worn with their collars and can be set to either glow or a flashing mode. For two years now we’ve taken their safety necklaces on every adventure!
